Should You Pull for Jonathan Joestar?

Jonathan Joestar's limited recruitment event, The Beginning of Fate — how many copies to chase, how to unlock his second Ultimate, and whether he's worth pulling for.

Jonathan Joestar gets his own limited recruitment event, The Beginning of Fate, and he’s worth understanding on his own terms: he’s the most reliable tank in the game, not a damage dealer — and how much you invest in him depends on which of those two things you’re actually chasing.

What he brings

Jonathan shields his whole team, force-taunts attackers off anyone about to die, and self-cleanses his own debuffs — all from his base kit, no investment required. He’s built to be the wall your team survives behind, not the character doing the killing. Don’t build him expecting big damage or a team-wide heal/cleanse support kit — that’s not his role.

How many copies to go for

Your first copy (★1) already gives you his full working tank kit, including his default Ultimate, Scarlet Overdrive.

Your second copy (★2) is worth pulling for on top: it unlocks the upgraded version of his True Gentleman passive, raising his Defense and Max HP by 10% and sharing 10% of any HP he restores with allies standing near him. That’s a real early-game sustain boost, not just a stat bump — worth the extra pull even if you’re playing free-to-play.

  • F2P: pull on his banner until you own 2 copies total.
  • Low/mid spender: the battle pass tied to his event hands you your first copy directly, so spend your Astrogems chasing just the second one instead of both.

Unlocking his second Ultimate

Jonathan can swap his default Ultimate for Sunlight Yellow Overdrive, a straight damage-and-debuff burst option instead of his sustain one. This doesn’t come from character copies — it’s locked behind his own dedicated Ability recruitment, separate from his character banner. A single pull there is enough to unlock it outright, and it’s worth doing early: it’s the one piece of his kit that gives him real damage on top of the tanking, and having it from the start makes your early game noticeably smoother.

Should you pull?

Yes — if your team doesn’t have a real tank yet, Jonathan is the single most reliable one you can get, and he’s strong from his very first copy. He’ll carry a huge share of your fights early on simply by refusing to die while nothing else on your roster hits hard yet.

Just don’t expect that to hold as you push further. His own damage output stays modest by design — as your other characters catch up and start hitting harder, Jonathan’s role narrows to exactly what he’s built for: holding the line while someone else carries the damage.
