Character Level
The continuous power axis. Each level adds HP / ATK / DEF. Levelling uses EXP scrolls and gold.
Cost / materials
EXP scrolls (story and daily content), Gold (story drops, exchange).
Several progression axes, each with a different bottleneck. The one to plan around is Character Star rank — it gates which Innate passives a character has access to at all.

The skill-slot gate. Star rank controls which of the three Innate passives are active — Basic and Ultimate are already on from ★1. Innate 1 unlocks at ★2, Innate 2 at ★3, Innate 3 at ★5.
Duplicate copies pulled from banners, or shards converted from duplicates.
For an SSR DPS, the gap between ★2 and ★3 is often where the kit "comes online". ★5 is the long-term target but rarely a day-one one.
Separate from Star rank. Levelling a skill keeps its mechanic identical but raises the multiplier and shortens the cooldown. Active skills cap at Lv.3, Ultimates at Lv.4.
Skill materials from daily content and event drops.
Mirrors character progression but for the Stand. Stand stages step up in discrete tiers and unlock the Star Tree branches; Stand Level scales continuously between stages.
Stand-specific fragments from the corresponding World Boss and from event drops.
Each Stand Stage advancement unlocks more Star Tree points to spend. Branches typically split between flat stat nodes (HP / ATK / Crit Boost) and a capstone passive unique to that character.
Star Tree points earned passively as Stand progression advances.
